      由于信州胆铜产量高,地位重要,现存史料中记述信州铅山场浸铜生产的内容也非常多,如前引南宋人赵蕃的记载等等。明代人胡我琨在《钱通》中也曾引录《广信府志胜》的记载,提到铅山县有两处浸铜场所:其一,“铜宝山,在县西南七里,一名七宝山。下有竹叶、猊(貌)平坑,石@(11)中胆泉涌出,浸铁成铜。天久晴,有矾可拾。建隆三年置铜场,今废。其铜以土垢淋水浸铁为之。”其二,“锁山门,浸铜之所,在县鹅湖乡,去治七十里许。有沟漕七十七处,兴于宋绍圣四年,更创于淳熙八年,县尉马子岩有铭,至淳yòu@①后渐废。”[27](卷三《资采》)(注:建隆三年在铜宝山铜场生产的应是矿铜,不是胆铜。)相比之下,饶州兴利场胆铜生产的记载不仅极少,胆铜产额也只占信州铅山场的八分之一弱。
          四、胆铜的生产工艺及生产成本
      宋代胆铜的生产工艺有两种,一为胆水浸铜,一为胆土淋铜。两种工艺过程,在洪咨夔的《大冶赋》中均有详细的记录[24](卷一《大冶赋》),现摘录如下:
     
      从所述情况来看,胆水浸铜与胆土淋铜两种方法的原理是相同的,都是用胆矾水浸泡铁片置换出胆铜,只是胆水浸铜是指直接将天然胆水引入人工建造的沟槽中,浸泡铁片;而胆土淋铜则要先采挖含有胆矾的土壤(包括采矿时被废弃的矿土),用水灌浸,使胆矾溶入水中,产生胆水,再用人工盛舀胆水淋浸铁片置换出胆铜。这两种方法,各有长处与不足,宋人总结为:“古坑有水处为胆水,无水处为胆土。胆水浸铜,工少利多,其水有限;胆土煎铜,工多利少,其土无穷。”胆水浸铜的优点是用工少,成本低,但必须依靠春夏雨季胆水充沛时从事生产,受季节、气候的影响很大。一旦春夏雨水少,涌出的胆水也会减少,自然无法大量生产胆铜。胆土淋铜比胆水浸铜投入的人工多,成本高,但是胆土取之不竭,生产上又不受季节的影响,一年四季均可生产。由于两种方法各有优劣,在胆水浸铜法推行后,宋政府又先后在韶州岑水场、潭州永兴场、信州铅山场等处推行了胆土淋铜法,最大限度地提高产铜数量。

      与矿铜生产相比,胆水浸铜和胆土淋铜两种生产的成本都比较低。崇宁元年(1102年)时,负责胆铜生产的官员游经提到,每生产一斤胆铜(此处应指胆水浸铜法),用本钱四十四文省。他建议:“措置之初,宜增本减息,庶使后来可继。胆水浸铜,斤以钱五十为本;胆土煎铜,斤以钱八十为本。比之矿铜,其利已厚。”[3 ](食货三四之二五)当时政府向矿铜生产者支付的成本大约是每斤一百文[28](卷四《论时事》)至二百五十文[3](食货三四之二七)。 从节约政府资金的角度来考虑,胆铜法生产是值得大力提倡的。从北宋后期至南宋期间,生产一斤胆铜需要的耗铁量不是固定不变的,耗铁量最少的如《文献通考》所载,“大率用铁二斤四两得铜一斤”[29](卷一八《征榷考五•坑冶)),耗铁量与出铜量比为2.25∶1; 据《宋会要辑稿》记载,南宋高宗末期,各地年供铁料八十八万斤以上,而全部胆铜产额只有二十一万斤,耗铁量与出铜量比为4∶1;南宋理宗时期,按照张端义《贵耳集》所言:“韶州涔(岑)水场以@(12)水浸铜之地,会百万斤铁浸炼二十万(斤)铜……”[30](卷下)耗铁量与出铜量比则增至5∶1。综合以上材料,可以看出,随着耗铁量的增加,胆铜原有的成本低廉的优势逐渐减弱以至消失,这应该是南宋以后胆铜生产无法再恢复到北宋时期的原因之一。

      自宋哲宗绍圣年间在信州铅山推行胆铜法后,很快就将这一新的生产方法推广到有胆水的矿区。大概在宋哲宗绍圣末元符初,游经曾主管推行胆铜生产,后以丁忧去官。建中靖国元年(1101年),游经守孝期满,向朝廷上言:“昨在任日常讲究有胆水可以浸铁为铜者:韶州岑水、潭州浏阳、信州铅山、饶州德兴、建州蔡池、婺州铜山、汀州赤水、邵武军黄齐、潭州矾山、温州南溪、池州铜山,凡一十处。唯岑水、铅山、德兴已尝措置,其余未及经理。将来钱额愈见亏失。”户部以为请,于是命“宣德郎游经提举措置江淮荆浙福建广南铜事”。“崇宁元年户部言:‘游经申,自兴置信州铅山场胆铜已(以)来,收及八十九万斤八千八十九斤八两。……自丁忧解职之后,皆权官时暂监管,致今胆铜十失五六,今再除职事以来,自今年正月至九月二十日终,已收胆铜一十七万二千一百二十三斤八两……’”[3](食货三四之二五)依据上述记载推测,游经在丁忧前推广胆铜生产时,信州铅山场、韶州岑水场、饶州德兴场胆铜生产成效已十分显著。游经以丁忧去官后,胆铜生产曾一度懈怠,建中靖国元年(1101年),官府再次授命游经总管南方诸路胆铜生产,并开发其它尚未经理的矿场。这之后,胆铜生产出现了高潮。前引《续资治通鉴长编》佚文曾提到:崇宁五年(1106年)中书省勘会诸路岁收铜数中,胆铜约收一百万斤。此后,据南宋乾道二年(1166年)的记载,北宋徽宗时期除信、饶、韶三州生产胆铜外,池、潭、婺三州也已生产胆铜,六州产量共约一百八十七万多斤,称为“祖额”(注:这一“祖额”没有标注年代,据危素《浸铜要略序》称:“政和五年雨多泉溢,所浸为最多”,又据《宋会要辑稿》记载:政和八年十一月,饶州提点司上奏称“江、池、饶州钱监鼓铸钱额上供全仰韶州岑水、潭州永兴、信州铅山三大场并新发坑场收趁铜料应副”,估计政和年间当是胆铜生产的兴盛期。),是宋代有据可考的胆铜最高产额。但仅仅数十年以后的南宋高宗末期,胆铜总额就迅速下降到只有二十一万多斤。其中,婺州不再生产胆铜,其他五州的产额也急剧减少。现将北宋徽宗时期及南宋高宗末期各地胆铜产量制成下表(表1),以供参考。[3](食货三三之一九至三三之二○)

      宋高宗以后,除饶、信、池、韶、潭五州生产胆铜外,从一些零散的史料记载中还可以看到以下三处也生产胆铜。一处位于汀州。游经曾把“汀州赤水”列为开发胆铜生产的场地之一。明代所修《嘉靖汀州府志》[31](卷二《山川》)中也提到:上杭县金山有胆水池,“相传宋时池水浸生铁可炼成铜”。清代的《大清一统志》记载得更为详细:“(汀州上杭县)金山……上有三池,名曰胆水。上下二池有泉涌出,中一池则蓄上池之流。相传宋时县治密迩其地,水赤味苦,饮则伤人,惟浸生铁,可炼成铜,后县治既迁,其水遂变,不异常水。”[32](卷三三四《汀州府一•山水》)其实,上杭县金山场曾在北宋治平四年(1067年)二月设置为采铜场,但矿场的开采时间极短,同年十月罢,[3](食货三三之三)赤水场也曾是产铜的场地, 宋神宗熙宁九年(1076年)被罢。[3](食货三三之九)另外, 上杭县还有一个重要的产铜场,即锺寮场。北宋天圣中因锺寮铜场兴盛,命知县兼监坑冶,于是县治由郭坊一地被迁徙至锺寮场附近,便于知县就近处理锺寮场事务。南宋“乾道三年,县令郑稽因民有请,申州及诸司”请徙县治,[33](卷七八九一《汀•汀州府•山川》)乾道四年(1168年)正月,福建路安抚、转运、提刑司上言乞将县治迁回郭坊,得到批准。[3 ](方域七之一一至一二)将这一情况与《大清一统志》的记载联系起来看,锺寮场至少应该是与金山、赤水“密迩其地”的,因此南宋时期极有可能也从事了胆铜生产。但是这几个铜场都没有留下胆铜产量的记录。据保存在《永乐大典》中的《临汀志》记载,锺寮场和金山场在南宋后期已被罢废。[33](卷七八九二《汀•汀州府志•仓场库务》)估计这里的胆铜生产成效不大。二是江南西路兴国军宝丰场,据《舆地纪胜》记载,“宝丰场,离大冶县九十里。出胆水,浸铁成铜”[21](卷三三《江南西路•兴国军•景物下》)。三是处州铜廊场,宋宁宗嘉定十四年(1222年),臣寮上言中还提到:“信之铅山与处之铜廊皆是胆水,春夏如汤,以铁投之,铜色立变。”[29](卷一八《征榷考五•坑冶》)上述这三个胆铜产地只有汀州曾在北宋后期被游经列为开发之地,兴国军和处州均未提及。因此,估计后两个胆铜场所可能是在南宋期间才被开发的。
      因南宋后期材料缺乏,现在已无法全面地考证胆铜生产的地区和产量。现仅见数条材料提到信州铅山县和韶州岑水场的浸铜情况:第一,据王象之的《舆地纪胜》记载,信州“今淋铜之所二百四槽,岁浸铜八万九千斤”[21](卷二一《江南东路•信州•景物上》)。这一岁收额是两宋期间信州胆铜的最低记录。从王象之嘉定辛巳年(嘉定十四年,公元1221年)为《舆地纪胜》作序来看,岁浸铜八万九千斤之数必定是在此前的某一年岁收额,而根据下面的第三条材料来看,这一岁收额的时间还得前移。第二,据明清地方志记载:抚州城东一百二十里东山产铁,宋乾道年间,置东山铁场,下设罗首坪炉、小浆炉、赤岸炉、金峰炉四炉,[34](卷二七《土产•抚州府》)“设监官铸钱。理宗时革监官,属临川县丞厅。岁趁办过铁二十四万二千四十六斤,解铅山县浸铜冶铸”[35](卷一二《物产》)。如果按每二斤四两铁产一斤胆铜计算,仅抚州生产的铁就可供信州铅山场浸铜十万斤,这一数额已超过了宋高宗绍兴末期信州铅山场生产的胆铜数额。第三,据赵蕃的《截留纲运记》记载[20](卷五《截留纲运记》):
      铅之阜,宝藏兴焉;铅之泉,宝货化焉。兴者有时,化者无穷。……dī@⑤泉为池,疏池为沟,布铁其中,期以浃旬,铁化为铜。场兵千夫,服劳力作,糗粮惟邑之供。冶台岁运江淮湖广之铁,泛彭蠡,sù@(13)番水,道香xī@(14)而东,岁计所用铜,取诸铅之泉者几半。初额为斤十有三万,其后加之一倍。昼作不逮,继以夜工,率一夫而食二人之食,邑计供yì@(15)nǎi@(16)不充。令告匮无所,懦者束手以罔措,健者取给于凿空,同底于戾,卒不克终。时嘉定九年,郡守诸台合辞上奏,请岁留纲解米,为斛千有六百以补之,犹不足也。越十有三载,董饷记者视故籍复责输焉。章君谦亨来宰民社,叹曰:‘场兵、戍兵均兵也。彼当饷,此不当饷耶?’告于郡。郡太守陈公章力请于饷台,总郎戴公桷慨然许之,达之于朝廷。于是,有札下饷台,州家岁留之米,遂为铅邑永久之利矣……夫米给,铜课登,鼓铸羡,圜泉衍,惠利周于四海……从这条材料中可获知,至少在宋宁宗嘉定九年(1216年)以前,铅山县生产的胆铜数额已从十三万斤增加到二十六万斤。为了完成这一数额,场兵日夜生产,食粮供应告匮,遂截留纲解米聊补不足。而十三年后的宋理宗绍定二年(1229年),铅山县又被下令重新交纳纲解米,经各级官员上奏,才最终免除了这一负担,从而为浸铜生产者提供了食粮保障。估计此时铅山县浸铜额仍然维持在二十六万斤左右。这一数字虽然无法与北宋后期的三十八万斤相比,却也表明铅山县浸铜生产在经历过南宋高宗末期的低谷后,已逐渐回升,达到北宋最高产额的三分之二以上。第四,据前引张端义《贵耳集》所言,理宗时,韶州岑水场用铁百万斤浸铜二十万斤,这一产量只占北宋事期产量的四分之一弱,却也比宋高宗时期明显回升。至于号称“三大场”中的潭州永兴场的情况,因材料缺乏,已无可考索。
      总而言之,宋代兴起的胆铜生产,部分地弥补了矿铜生产衰落对铸钱生产和财政收支活动的冲击,使中国古代采矿业在传统的生产方法之外又开辟出一条新的途径。古代劳动人民总结出来的胆铜生产原理,仍然是现代湿法冶金的理论基础之一。
